Aaron Nejad Carpets and Rugs has dated this piece to the 1880s.
This cute piece is a fine example of Tekke weaving from the last quarter of the 19th century. It has velvety wool and a tight weave. All the dyes are natural and have acquired a lovely harmonious patina. The guls are arranged in a spacious manner and are well drawn. Note the well designed border with little groups of quadrupeds and the pretty skirts at each end. Cherished through the generations, this piece has survived in truly excellent condition. A fine velvety pile even throughout. The kilim ends are intact and the original selvages have survived. Professionally cleaned, this little rug is a gem which would enhance many decorative settings.
