19th century Oushak carpets are today amongst the most coveted of antique eastern carpets. The scale of the drawing and the colours offer an alternative to the traditional Persian carpet format. Here is a lovely example. It is drawn with largescale palmettes and other stylised floral ornaments arranged in an all-over design. Framed by a very pretty coral border with elegantly spaced geometric motifs. The field colours are dominated by the aquamarine background, golds and greens. The overall impression is very harmonious, decorative and stylish. Furthermore, it is rare to find an Oushak carpet with these qualities in such a sweet small carpet size. Professionally cleaned in recent times.
