Description

Woven by the talented Belouchi weavers who migrated between north Persia and southern Afghanistan for centuries, this handsome piece has many interesting features. The field is woven with undyed camels wool. The angular drawing of the repeating botehs is charming while the design is further enriched by other ornamentation in the field, including the two hands in the corners of the spandrels. Note that the botehs change direction in each row. The stylised floral border is also attractive and frames the composition well. Note also the piled chevron ends. Finely knotted with lovely wool, this piece has survived in very good condition. There is some corrosion in the brown areas as one would expect from a piece of this age.
