Description

The Qashquli are a subtribe of the nomadic Qashqai Federation who migrated in southern Persia for centuries. They were known to be one of the wealthier groups within the confederation, and their weavings often have a quality and prestige which reflects this status. This rug is a lovely example of their workmanship. Finely knotted with a thin velvety wool pile on a wool foundation, the scale of the rug is impressive. The repeated use of the Qashqai emblem dominates the design while a blend of subtle colours have been used to create a very harmonious composition. Note the charming botehs in the spandrels. This is a lovely piece which would work equally well on the floor or wall. Professionally cleaned and in very good original condition. Original kilim ends and selvages are intact. This piece was clearly cherished through the generations.
