Antique Ushak Carpet

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Farnham Antique Carpets

An amazing early antique Ushak carpet, with the most delightful palette of natural dyes.  The faded greens work so well with the muted pink to apricot background colour, off-whites and rich yellow tones complete the colours.  Woven with a very open drawing with nice symmetry to the design, hand-woven around 1880 by skilled Turkish weavers in Ushak, Western Anatolia.

Ushaks were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and soft dyes are not uncommon.  Often younger Ushaks or Oushaks will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs.  This Anatolian carpet has an almost contemporary feel to it...
