Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Wellington chest is a tall, narrow cabinet featuring a vertical column of drawers secured by a hinged side pilaster that locks over the drawer ends. Originating in 19th-century Britain and named in honor of the Duke of Wellington, the design provided compact, lockable storage for personal effects and documents.

These chests were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, often finished with decorative veneers including satinwood, rosewood, or birds-eye maple on the drawer fronts. Internal drawer linings commonly utilised pine or oak with hand-cut dovetail joinery.

Authentic period examples feature a functional hinged locking flap along one side that covers the drawer edges when closed. Look for hand-cut dovetail joints, period-correct brass or wooden turned knobs, original lock mechanisms, and evidence of hand-planed secondary timbers on the back and interior.

A Wellington chest functions well in a hallway, home office, or bedroom, drawing the eye upward with its tall proportion. Pair it with neutral walls, contemporary table lamps, or framed artwork to balance the rich tone of historic timbers with modern interior schemes.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth following the wood grain. Apply a high-quality clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and protect the veneer, ensuring the piece is kept away from direct heat sources and extreme humidity fluctuations.
