Description

Gorgeous faded pinks, yellow tones, and pale blues combine with the blue-green background colour.  The large all over open design is what makes Ushak carpets so desirable too, easy to place and so beautiful to furnish with.  From the late 19th century, the dyes are just majestic! Some minimal wear in places, but supplied with our underlay this would add strength to the carpet and stop it from moving on sisal, wooden floors, tiled floors and carpet.  Thus preventing further wear, as this generally occurs when carpets move around.

The top right hand corner of the carpet has a little area of damage we are yet to repair, but we will undertake soon.  Easily for our expert restorer to reweave very well, we use antique wool to match the colour, so it would not be noticeable once completed.

Please Request a Home Visit to see this beautiful blue-green antique Ushak carpet at home soon.  We love to travel, visiting clients and interior designers all over the UK, as we have done for the last 30 years.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Ushak carpets originate from the town of Usak in western Turkey, which has been a major centre for rug production since the Ottoman Empire. These carpets are internationally renowned for their fine wool, luminous vegetable dyes, and distinctive large-scale floral and geometric motifs.

Authentic antique Ushak carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun sheeps wool for both the pile and the foundation warp and weft threads. The rich, muted colour palette is achieved through the use of natural vegetable and insect-derived dyes such as madder root and walnut husks.

Identification involves examining the quality of the hand-spun wool, the looseness of the Turkish or symmetrical knotting compared to Persian rugs, and the characteristic soft, faded colour palette. Genuine older pieces feature natural wear patterns, minor dye variations, and authentic hand-finished selvedges.

An antique Ushak carpet serves as a sophisticated anchor piece in modern spaces, pairing exceptionally well with minimalist modern furniture, neutral linen upholstery, and architectural elements. Its faded patina and large-scale patterns add texture, warmth, and historical depth to both modern minimalist and traditional rooms.

Preserve antique wool carpets by vacuuming gently on low suction without a rotating brush roll, avoiding direct exposure to harsh sunlight to prevent fading, and utilizing professional specialist rug cleaners. Rotating the carpet every six months ensures even wear patterns over time.
