The border is also quite typical with stylised skeletal trees and leaves. However the spacing of the ornaments and wonderful colour scheme indicate that the rug was woven at least a generation before the commercial production of the late 19th century. The pile is low and even with an attractive lived in look. A few scattered old repairs suggest its age, and also that previous owners loved it enough to restore it. All I have done to it is to give it a light wash to bring out the freshen of the wonderful colours. This is a very decorative rug which would look good in both traditional and modern decorative settings.
