A rare square antique Ushak carpet with sublime earthy tones. The background colour is most unusual, almost a dark stone, brownish dye, with sage greenish tones close up. The professional photograph you can see is extremely close to how it looks colourise with the human eye. This amazing carpet dates from around 1880-1890, the border design is exquisite, with a flowing fine pattern of flowers with delicate pinks and green.
The square size and open design is really the perfect combination for a decorative carpet, with no central medallion and strong dyes. This delightful piece could be used in any room. Look closely and the detail the weavers have used for the small flowers at the end of the vines are just really pretty. Condition is impressive, with no damage or issues. The plain outer border often gets lost over 100 years of use, this carpet has been used but well looked after.
