Description

An atmospheric marine landscape depicting boats at low tide, with trademark light grey skies over the Atlantic.

I have little information about the artist, Etienne Bellan (1922-2000), except for an anecdote related to me by the son of the previous owners: they had met Bellan on holiday on the island of Noirmoutier in 1968, where they saw this very oil on canvas being created. They acquired it directly from the artist. Bellan was a writer as well as a painter.

Our oil on canvas measures 33 x 41 cm and is signed at the lower right. The overall framed size in a good frame with minor wear is 43 x 51 cm.
