Ziegler rugs and carpets are among the most sought after Persian rugs. The date to the period between 1880 and 1920 when the Manchester-based business Ziegler and Co. set up carpet weaving workshops in Sultanabad. The best of these carpets display display a decorative and artistic genius which as stood the test of time. Probably originally woven as a sampler or wagireh, this beautiful little rug displays all the most desirable elements of the great Ziegler carpets. Swirling leaves and large palmettes in pale shades of ivory, terracotta, and green combine to create a highly graphic piece of woven art which would work well either on the floor or wall. Slight wear in places but in good condition. Clean and ready for immediate use.
