An exceptional antique Serapi carpet, Persian Azerbaijan. Made around 1870-1880 this carpet, with its open, fluid drawing, soft pastel colours and liberal use of pale yellow represents what is considered by connoisseurs as the most desirable of its type. The grandfather of many thousands of later Heriz carpets that are so common in good house all over the world.

This example, purchased from a prominent Italian family, was formally in the hands of legendary dealer, David Hallevin.

This wonderful carpet exudes light and vitality and would be at home in the most elegant of country houses. It is in very good condition for its age, with even low pile allover and minimal top flight repairs. It has been deep cleaned and has all ends and sides secured.
