Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 16th century, Italian portraiture emphasised formal dignity, status, and precise detail, often depicting military officers, noblemen, and scholars in detailed attire or armour.

Artists typically applied oil pigments mixed with natural binding mediums onto hand-woven linen or hemp canvas, grounded with gesso layers.

Authentic works from this period display natural craquelure patterns, evidence of hand-prepared canvases, historic wood stretcher bars, and period-appropriate pigment composition.

Positioning a historical portrait above a contemporary console or fireplace creates a focal point by contrasting classical subject matter with clean architectural lines.

Maintain a stable climate away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and heating sources, utilizing professional conservators for surface cleaning and varnish maintenance.
