Rare Antique Kashkuli Runner, Southern Persia

A very stunning and rare antique Kashkuli runner woven in the south-west of Persia with a beautiful array of colours, wondeful 'Boteh' design in the main field design.  This antique runner from the late 19th century has also retained its original knotted end finishing at both ends, which often gets worn away.  In fabulous condition with a super soft handle and medium high pile.  Woven on a soft wool foundation, they tend to be light to touch and come in a variety of designs.   We have not encountered a runner from the tribal weaving area of Kashkuli for a very long time, as they produced small tribal rugs primarily.

The Qashqai are Persian nomadic tribes that have lived in south-west Persia for centuries. The Qashqai people lived in central Asia and the Caucasus region for many centuries before moving to their current home region. Because of this diverse history, influences from many regions are apparent in their carpets, such as these Bothe designs which we often see in rugs such as Senneh and Caucasian rugs.  More often woven on a wool foundation their handle is loose and with fine soft wool they are beautiful underfoot.
