Antique Sultanabad Carpet

19th century
Description

An elegant muted antique Sultanabad carpet, with an ivory background, sludgy lime green tones and light pink tones with a gentle intricate lattice all over design.  In excellent condition for its age, this decorative antique carpet has a nice wool pile and is soft to handle and touch.  An excellent carpet to design a scheme around or place in a variety of rooms.  A few old areas of wear but nothing significant and in general it is in good condition and a durable carpet, professionally washed and ready to be used on the floor.

Visit our showroom in Crondall, Surrey to see this decorative antique carpet and many more beautiful antique pieces.  Alternatively request a home visit for us to show you this carpet in situ at a convenient time, we love to travel all over the UK helping customers and interior designers.

Sultanabad carpets are very important in the history of weaving as Sultanabad was formally known as Arak which was once the capital of Persia in the 1800's.  Famous carpets such as Ziegler were woven in Sultanabad by the company Ziegler & Co which produced open large floral designs for western tastes and thrived in the late 19th century exporting these carpets to the US and Europe.  Sultanabad carpets are know as older better quality Mahals woven from the mid to late 19th century there pile is much flatter than the younger Mahal carpets and using softer colours rather than the typical reds and blues we associate with most Persian carpets.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
