Everett William Mellor (1878-1965)

Everett Willam Mellor was a landscape painter in both watercolour and oil. Born in London he was the son of William Mellor, a renowned landscape artist. Everett was taught by his father, and his style is very similar to that of William's, with whom his works are sometimes confused. Both father and son had a wonderful eye for composition and their choice of landscape is superb, taking inspiration from the landscapes of North Wales and the North East of England. He died in Middlesborough in 1965.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Nineteenth-century British landscape art focused on naturalistic depictions of rural scenery, dramatic weather conditions, and regional topography. Artists captured atmospheric light and topographical features using fine oil brushwork and subtle tonal glazes.

Painters typically applied oil-based pigments onto stretched linen canvas or wooden panels. Natural pigments were mixed with oils and varnishes, often prepared on traditional wooden palettes and framed in gilded plaster or carved wooden mouldings.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit age-appropriate craquelure across the paint layer, natural oxidisation on the canvas backing, historical framing marks, and artist signatures executed in the painters established hand.

Traditional oil landscapes work well hung as focal artwork above fireplaces, sideboards, or console tables. Combining classic framed art with contemporary furniture provides visual contrast and depth within modern living spaces.

Keep the canvas away from direct sunlight, radiator heat sources, and high humidity to prevent warping or paint cracking. Dust the surface gently with a dry, soft brush and consult a professional conservator for varnish cleaning.
