Description

This wonderful textile was woven by the talented Shahsavan weavers of north-west Persia using hand spun wool and natural dyes. It has been woven in three strips and narrow looms and then sewn together. The original use in the tent would have been as a cover, or possibly as a sofreh or serving cloth around which the family would sit to eat meals. It has survived in such wonderful condition which suggests it may have been made for ceremonial occasions or as a dowry gift. The aesthetics are quite surprising and feel very contemporary, perhaps as a result of the wide stripes and primary colours. This piece has been professionally cleaned and is ready for immediate use.
