Description

The Baktiar are an ancient tribe that migrated in the Zagros Mountains of southern Persia for centuries. Their weavings range from tribal artifacts for domestic use such as bags, saddlebags and covers, to a wonderful array of village rugs, and even some grand carpets made for the tribal khans. This pretty rug was made in a village setting. The garden design seen of this piece is ubiquitous in Baktiar weavings. However, this piece is a particularly nice example and has a very nicely drawn range of trees and shrubs in each panel, framed by a very unusual border. The wool and dyes are of a high quality and the workmanship has the hallmarks of good Baktiari weaving. In good condition, and recently professionally cleaned.
