Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid mahogany & brass adjustable shaving stand, circa 1860, in excellent condition. The shaving stand boasts a circular bevelled mirror in a moulded frame. The mirror is positionable and height adjustable; a mechanism positioned on the back of the mirror allows it to be angled up or down, while a wooden threaded peg, set within a small turned column, can be loosened to allow the mirror to be raised up and rotated, then tightened again to lock it in place. The mirror is raised on a brass pole, set within the turned column. Below, the stand features a turned tabletop, which can rotate interdependently from the mirror and includes two internal compartments, accessed by a lid on either side. The tabletop sits atop a ring turned and carved column, terminating with a reverse finial. The column is supported by the original splayed scroll legs. Although originally designed as a shaving stand, it would serve well as a makeup stand too.

Condition Report:
This antique Victorian mahogany shaving stand is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and inside compartments, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. We have fitted a new top-quality bevelled mirror to the shaving stand, therefore the glass is free from any scratches, marks or foxing. The brass mechanism has been cleaned and serviced in our workshops and is smooth-running and also solid. No breaks or damaged to the mechanism. The table-top and column are solid and the feet are original, with no breaks. The stand has a lovely warm colour and patination. This shaving stand is well constructed, solid in joint, sits firm on the ground and is ready to use.
