This walnut chest on stand belongs to the Queen Anne period and has a warm brown colour. The upper section has a moulded cornice and houses two short drawers above three long graduated drawers, fitted with decorative brass bale handles and keyhole escutcheons. The stand features a central drawer flanked by two smaller drawers above a gothic arched shaped apron, supported by four cabriole legs. The wood displays an aged patination and grain finish. The piece measures 122 cm high, 97 cm wide and 51 cm deep, offering substantial storage capacity for everyday items. In a contemporary home, this chest suits a hallway, living room or bedroom for linen and clothing organisation. The refined proportion and traditional aesthetic coordinate with period properties and classic interior schemes. The freestanding cabinet occupies a modest floor footprint while providing significant vertical drawer space, making it a functional addition to domestic settings.

A chest on stand, also known as a highboy, is a two-part furniture piece consisting of an upper chest of drawers supported by a lower base set on decorative legs, typically produced in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

Queen Anne period chests were predominantly constructed using native timber cores, such as pine or oak, veneered with figured walnut, walnut burrs, or fruitwoods, complemented by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings with grain running front-to-back, original brass bail handles with backplates, and period-correct construction evidence under the base.

An antique chest on stand functions well as a focal point in a hallway, dining room, or bedroom, contrasting naturally against contemporary neutral walls and modern artwork.

Keep walnut furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish.
