Antique Salt Bag by the Zaggar Mangal Baluch Nomads, Circa 1920.

Description

Size: 1ft 10in x 0ft 10in (55 x 26cm) excluding tassels.

Antique salt bag by the Zaggar Mangal nomads of South West Afghanistan.

Circa 1920.

This excellent salt bag is tightly woven with a fine design identical on both sides, the bag is decorated with long tassels and small cowrie shells. Salt bags like this were used to carry rock salt which was a very precious commodity to the nomads.

The salt bag is in excellent original condition and would make a wonderful wall hanging.
