Antique Caucasian Daghestan Prayer Rug, Ivory Ground Lattice, Circa 1880.

Description

Size: 3ft 11in x 2ft 10in (120 x 86cm).

Antique Caucasian Daghestan prayer rug with floral lattice on an ivory ground.

Circa 1880 or earlier.

A well drawn example of this well known group of prayer rugs, this rug has a fine lattice containing flowers on an ivory ground. The border is of a simple floral rosette design. Note the small filler elements on either side of the lattice, small birds and amulets.

The rug has even wear and medium pile, at some time in its life the rug may have had a larger outer border which has been skilfully removed to create a rug of charming small size.

Hand washed and ready for use or display.
