It's weave and dye palette are consistent with rugs from the late 19th century. The condition is exceptional with a good pile throughout the rug and the original ends are secure too. No old repairs and beautiful natural dyes. A wonderful small mat with a very pretty design!
Rugs from Bidjar are very tough due to their structure which consists of usually five weft threads, two are loose wool threads followed by one taut cotton thread, then a further two loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots, creating an extremely tight, compact rug. They tend to be floral in design, with the 'Herati' fish design commonly used in the main field and border or the 'Mina-Khani' floral design all over as in this example.
