Description

Gendje is a district in the Caucasus where many great rugs were produced. They are notable for their cheerful colours and wide array of designs. This piece is a very nice example. The colours are indeed light and cheerful. The geometric design is often seen across the Caucasus and is known as the Memling gul, Please note also the little animals. Village weavers often added images from their own lives into the traditional designs. Note too the very nice small format, which gives the rug great flexibility. It would look equally good on the floor or wall. This piece has survived the generations in good condition, and with minimal repair. Generally very good pile. Professionally cleaned.
