Description

Fereghan lies in West Persia, where some wonderful rugs and carpet were woven during the 19th century. This piece dates to the mid-19th century, the period immediately before the Revival Period which began around 1870. It is a grand old carpet with wonderful dyes and a crisply drawn version of the 'Mina Khani' design. The lovely diamond medallion is beautifully drawn and seems to float above the sapphire blue field. Note the lovely green border and the aubergine dye, a dye which fell out of use in second half of the 19th century when fuschine and other chemical dyes started to come into use. It is a very elegant carpet which is enhanced by the light wear and old repair which gives it that eternal lived-in look. Professionally cleaned and ready for immediate use.
