A beautiful kashan mohtasham depicting seated darvesh possibly Noor Ali Shah with his kashkol next to him and the axe in his hand. 88 x 70 cm.

Darvesh in Islam can refer broadly to members of a Sufi fraternity (tariqah), or more narrowly to a religious mendicant, who chose or accepted material poverty. The latter usage is found particularly in Persian and Turkish.
