Classy Antique Bidjar Carpet, Persia, Circa 1870, 3.65m X 1.65m

Description

This carpet is really classy old school taste. The colours are absolutely the perfect combination that one would expect from a good Bidjar carpet of this period. The Herati design is meticulously drawn, but on a scale which makes it very easy on the eye. I particularly like the ivory border, an unusual colour choice, and the drawing of the mini palmettes and botehs. Please take a note of the aubergine dye which appears generously across the carpet. This early dye is a very good indication that this carpet was made in the pre-commercial Revival Period at the end of the 19th century. The carpet has worn in an even way and has that elusive 'lived-in' look.
