A beautiful pale green antique Oushak carpet from Western Anatolia with glorious soft pinks and gentle greens.  One of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire, Ushak designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and softer dyes are not uncommon.  Often younger Ushaks or Oushaks will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs.  Condition wise, it is in good general condition with minimal low areas in places. Oushak carpets from this period were often woven on a red weft (the weft being part of the foundation running across) it occasionally can be seen on Oushaks with larger knots such as this decorative carpet.  Some areas of low pile showing, and minor restoration on the sides in places.  But structurally very sound and lots of soft wool pile remaining over the majority of this highly decorative carpet.  With our durable carpet underlay it would add further body and keep it safe on the floor for many years.Ushak rugs and carpets were woven in the ...
