Antique Prayer Rug by the Ersari Turkmen of Scarce Type, Circa 1890.

Size: 5ft 1in x 2ft 8in (154 x 82cm).

Antique Ersari Turkmen prayer rug with lotus leaf design on a camel ground.

Circa 1890.

Turkmen prayer rug of this type are scarce and often confused with similar rugs woven by the Baluch. This example has an all over Lotus leaf design on a camel ground. The detail within the mihrab is good with a rams horn design.

The rug is in fair condition with some losses to the ends and sides, the sides have been re-bound. There are a few scattered old repairs, the rug has even wear with a few spots of heavier wear and generally good pile. There are traces of fuchsine dye in the lotus leaf design. The condition of the rug is reflected in the price.

The rug has been hand washed and ready for use or display.

The rug is suitable for light domestic use.
