Description

This is a very characterful Tekke Turkman Esari Ensi rug dating from the late 19th Century. It has a rich warm colour palette, the madder red field of candelabra motifs enclosed by serrated leaf borders and an elem border at one one with stylised flowerheads in shades of indigo and warm ivory and coral. This type of square rug was used in tent doorways. The carpet dates from around 1900 and is in good condition save for some very slight wear to the elem (the wider border at one end). The depth of colour is good and the pile is low and even. The carpet is fit for use or could be displayed as a wall hanging. It is a useful size measuring 155 cms by 121 cms.
