Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this piece to the 1880s.
Antique Western Anatolian Bergama region village prayer rug of small square size.
Circa 1880.
A good prayer rug of small almost square size, with a traditional design. The top of the rug above the mihrab is in a soft green with the main field being in red. The field contains a large latch hook medallion along with a star in octagon and floral rosettes. The indigo ground border is of a floral design, possibly carnations.
The rug is in fair condition with some wear and good long soft pile.
There are a few other scattered old repairs which I have also imaged. The rug retains the original kilim end finish at the top end which is decorated with a small piled triangle. There is a small section of the original kilim at the lower end. (The price reflects the condition).
The rug has been hand washed and is ready for use or display. Although repaired the rug would make a great wall hanging.
