Size: 1ft 0in x 1ft 0in (30 x 31cm) face size; 2ft 0in x 1ft 0in (60 x 31cm) open size.

Antique South East Caucasian Shirvan bag with striped plain weave back.

Circa 1900.

The bag face is well drawn with a abrashed madder red field containing traditional design elements that are often found on Shirvan rugs; these include a number of small birds and animals. The bag is complete with its striped plain weave back which has been opened at the sides for display. The bag has been protected during use by fine fabric stitched over the top edge. Small bags such as this were used for the storage of personal items.

The bag is in excellent original condition with very slight even wear and almost full pile, the plain weave back shows some wear to the corners through use.

We have not washed this item.

A very good collectable bag in superb display condition.
