As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this outstanding pair of Meiji period 1868-1912 Gold lacquer vases , the segmented bodies of each vase are decorated in a delightful Gold lacquer ground and further decorated with four silver mounted inset Shibayama panels , these outstanding Gold lacquer panels depict Ikebana floral displays, a vase of flowers upon a low table , birds and Butterflies in flight amidst native flora, as well as Birds sat upon and around Prunus blossom trees, two of the Shibayama panels have been signed by individual artists in mother of pearl tablets , the lacquer bodies sit upon solid Silver and enamelled lobed and splayed feet that are further signed to the underside in gilt tablets , the flared lobed silver mounted necks are again similarly decorated in multi coloured enamels, a fantastic pair of increasingly scarce Gold lacquer vases that would enhance your Japanese works of art collection .

Provenance :

These type of vases are so often damaged, due to the complex nature of their manufacture, three or four Meiji period artists have spent many weeks combining their respective skills to manufacture this high quality and increasingly scarce pair , we are delighted to bring them to the market once again , originally from an important Irish collection and subsequently supplied by ourselves to an overseas collector in 2016 .

The condition is fabulous and original, with minimal age related wear .
