Farnham Antique Carpets has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Muted faded greens, pale blues and soft reds. This antique carpet dating from the late 19th century is still in brilliant working order and useable with our excellent underlay included in the price. It would look great on a wooden floor in many rooms whether a hall, drawing room, dining room or study. Rare to find these pale antique carpets with a lovely subtle all over design.
Mahal carpets were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the center of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vine scrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western color palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets. Neighbours to Heriz carpets there designs are very different as Heriz tend to be quite angular and geometric whereas Mahal carpets are generally more open in design and curvilinear.
