A beautiful richly coloured antique Bidjar rug with a nice variety of orange/red dyes.  Woven with a natural wool ivory border this lightens the rugs palette.  The famous ''Herati'' design is the pattern we see in the main field, which consists of two stylised leaves around a flower.  In the 16th century this used to be two fish swimming around a water-lily.  A great antique rug in wonderful condition.Rugs from Bidjar are very tough due to their structure which consists of usually five weft threads, two are loose wool threads followed by one taut cotton thread, then a further two loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots, creating an extremely tight, compact rug.
