Description

Antique Serapi carpets have a special place in the Persian repertory. They provide a link between the medallion carpet designs of the classic period, and the decorative Heriz carpets which were extremely popular from the late 19th century. This piece is a lovely example. It has a perfect balance of colours, and a very well-executed design. Note the way the terracotta field colour is repeated in the border, a rare feature. The secondary colours such as the steel grey and pale blues, yellow and greens enhance the overall appearance. All the design elements are in perfect proportion creating an elegant composition. The carpet is in very good condition, clean and ready for immediate use.
