This nineteenth-century French bronze sculpture depicts a military standard bearer by the artist Charles Anfrie. The patinated dark brown figure wears a double-breasted tunic with visible buttons, a medal, a uniform, and a kepi, standing atop a naturalistic round base. He holds a flag staff in his left hand and carries a sword in his right hand, alongside a pistol at his side. The cast bronze composition exhibits fine detail across the uniform, facial features, and the folds of the draped standard. Measuring 28 cm high, 8 cm wide, and 8 cm depth, the statue stands at a compact scale suitable for display on a mantelpiece. It fits naturally within a gentleman's library or study interior as a decorative tabletop piece. The bronze sits on a wooden surface backed by a painted wall and an oil painting in a decorative gilt frame.

French military bronzes from the late 19th century typically showcase academic realism, featuring accurate historical uniforms, weaponry, and posed figures commemorating soldiers, officers, or national symbols.

These figures were cast using either the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand-casting technique, after which hand-chasing added fine surface detail before a chemical patina was applied.

Authentic works generally feature a crisp cast signature, precise anatomical proportions, detailed uniform accents, and appropriate period casting marks or foundry stamps.

A patinated bronze figure provides visual weight when placed on a dark wood desk, mantelpiece, or bookshelf, complementing traditional, dark academia, or modern eclectic spaces.

Dust regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush, and preserve the original patina by applying a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax annually, avoiding liquid polishes or abrasive cleaners.
