Description

Spain has a long tradition of making hand-knotted carpets. Not only do they have a unique weave and technical structure but they also have an aesthetic character to themselves. The palette of gold, blue and green seen on this carpet goes back centuries to the Cuenca carpets of the 16th century. And the spacious lozenge field with a generous main border is also reminiscent of earlier carpet designs. Woven at the beginning of the 20th century, this carpet precedes the later carpets woven in the state workshops introduced by General Franco in the 1930s. This carpet is stylish and appealing. It is fashionably worn and would be ideal for a 'country house' setting.
