Antique Ziegler Mahal Carpet

Description

A decorative antique Ziegler Mahal carpet woven with a warm all over design, using rich reds and hints of green.  In very good condition all over with a floral vine design in the main field.  These types of carpets are easily placed into rooms and will enhance and compliment many styles of rooms.

Mahals are made near their cousins Heriz and are more often all-over designs. This carpet has a wonderful variation of dyes and has a border similar to that of Ziegler carpets hence the name.

Mahal carpets and rugs were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the centre of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vinescrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western colour palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.  Use our 'Home Visit' service to see this carpet and many more in situ, you can select a convenient day and time for us to visit.
