Antique Karaja Runner, Persia

We love the repeating ''Boteh'' design border on this vibrant antique Karaja runner.  Electric vibrant colours on this runner from the village of Karaja used great natural dyes and tough wool which is why often these are found with a full pile.  Woven around the early part of the 20th century it is in very nice condition ideal to brighten up a hall or landing space.  These antique runners are extremely robust and can take a lot of use everyday. The repeating star motif design in the main field is common with runners from the north of Persia and often take designs from Caucasian rug designs.
 
Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs.
