A beautiful finely woven and signed by the weaver Nain carpet with wool pile and silk highlights woven around 1950.  This production of  carpets are very highly regarded for both their quality and their designs. This signed workshop carpet would have been designed by a master weaver on paper (a cartoon,) which would be visible alongside the loom to aid the weavers with their knotting.  This Nain carpet has a lot of silk defining the design around the elaborate intricate floral motifs and scrolling fines.  A very elegant and fine carpet ideal for many rooms.Nain is a town 150km to the east of Isfahan in central Iran; it is relatively new to the carpet world compared to ancient weaving centres such as Kashan, Isfahan and Yazd. Although it started out producing Isfahan carpets, in the mid 1930s Nain began developing its own style.
