Size: 6ft 3in x 4ft 7in (190 x 139cm).

Antique Ersari Turkmen ensi of traditional design with excellent colour and outstanding condition.

Circa 1890.

Ensi were door hangings used to cover the entrance to a yurt.

This example is woven with the traditional Ersari design; the colours are outstanding with a beautiful soft red brown ground and a very good yellow, along with ivory and light indigo blue. The ensi has good soft wool. The design in the elem panel at the base is very pleasing and the original woven checkerboard end finish is complete. The chevron design in the central panel is an unusual feature.

The ensi is in outstanding condition with no wear and full pile.

The ensi has been hand washed and is ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
