Description

An extremely fine example of a cwpwrdd tridarn (three-part cupboard), of small proportions and made from the rare and desirable yew-wood.

The top tier has a bold cornice above a frieze bearing the marriage initials "W" over "T...E", flanked by the date "1730", with a boarded back and sides with wavy slats fronted by well-turned columns. The central section has an unusual arrangement with a pair of drop finials over two small drawers flanked by cupboards with square raised and fielded panels. The base section has a pair of doors, each with three panels and wrought iron butterfly hinges, the whole raised on stile feet.

Conwy Valley, Snowdonia, north Wales, dated 1730.

Wonderful original colour and surface patination.
