Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century copperplate engraving is an intaglio printmaking technique where an image is incised into a copper sheet using a burin. Ink is applied to the recessed lines, and high pressure transfers the design onto paper, producing fine, precise line work characteristic of the era.

These prints were rendered using oil-based carbon ink printed onto handmade laid paper. Laid paper of this period was constructed from cotton or linen rags, displaying distinct grid-like chain and wire lines when viewed against light.

Authentic prints feature an indented plate mark around the image where the metal plate pressed into the paper. Examination under magnification reveals fine hand-engraved cross-hatching rather than modern dot-matrix pixels, alongside characteristic laid paper textures.

Classical engravings pair well with understated gallery frames in dark wood or brass. Grouping several monochromatic historical prints creates visual structure above sideboards, desks, or along hallway walls in modern or traditional settings.

Keep paper prints away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and foxing. Frame using acid-free matting boards and UV-protective glass to shield the paper substrate from atmospheric degradation.
