A very fine and exceptionally beautiful antique Shekarlu Qasgai tribal carpet. Typical allover field design of animal figures, serrated leaves, flowers, rosettes and other filler elements woven in vivid natural dyes on rich indigo ground flanked by generous sunburst borders. This spectacular carpet is much larger than most others in the group and has thick glossy pile allover with just one small repair. Surely one of the best examples of this coveted type, it should appeal to the connoisseur. The piece was previously sold at Lefevre auctions, London in 1978 where is made £5800 hammer price, a considerable amount at that time. It has been in the same collection ever since.
