Antique Tekke Bokhara Rug

1900 - 1920
Description

Beautiful small Antique Tekke Bokhara rug woven in the early 20th century, 2 rows of the 'Gul' design in the main field, plus some lovely tribal motifs in the skirt design at the top and bottom.  Rich reds and deep purple/burgundy dyes on this antique tribal rug.  Great little antique rug for in front of the fire, a study, bedroom or in a hall.  In nice pile, finely woven and ready to be used on the floor. We provide excellent underlay with every rug we sell, which stops the rug from being dangerous on the floor.

Bokhara carpets and rugs woven at the end of the 19th century into the early 20th century were hand-woven by people of Russian Turkistan (Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). These famous Bokhara designs have been copied over the years by weavers in Iran, Afghanistan, China and Pakistan. Bokhara rugs hold a high place in rug weaving history and are a traditional piece of art suitable for any interior decor. The repeating motif in the centre of this type of carpet is known as the 'Gul' design which is often thought to depict an elephants foot print.
