Sold by: Cella

Superb Grand Tour verdigris bronze model of the Fontana del Tritone by Bernini in the Piazza Barberini, Rome. The original fountain, a striking mythical scene, was created between 1642-3 by the most famous baroque sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini in the Piazza Barberini in Rome. Triton is depicted with head back drinking from a conch shell. He sits on a large open shell held aloft by four dolphins with a central plaque containing the papal coat of arms of his patron the Barberini Pope Urban VIII. Interesting and rare Grand Tour bronze.
