Antique Transcaucasian Runner, South Caucasus

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Farnham Antique Carpets

A striking antique Transcaucasian runner dating from 1880-1890 in exceptional original condition.  Rugs and runners described as this usually come from the vicinity of the southern Caucasus mountains, which is modern day Armenia and Azerbaijan.  Using Caucasian Borjalou style latch-hook motifs running down the main field on a camel coloured background the palette and design is quite fantastic!  The running leaf stylised flower border design is typical of Persian rugs from Bakshaish and Heriz and into the Caucasus too.  The variation of background colours in the border from blue to ivory to subtle brownish tones compliment the overall designs beautifully.

In excellent pile all over with hardly any wear to speak of, original ends are secure and the sides are all in tact too.  A rare and beautiful southern Caucasian runner from the late 19th century ideal for a corridor, hall or landing area.  We supply sturdy underlay with every carpet, rug or runner purchased.
