Antique Bijar Carpet of Outstanding Design and Colour, Country House Carpet, Circa 1880.

Description

Size: 12ft 6in x 8ft 10in (382 x 270cm).

Antique Persian Bijar carpet of small medallion design with excellent natural dyed colours throughout.

Circa 1880.

The carpet has a beautifully drawn small floral medallion on a very soft madder red field. The carpet is covered with floral sprays in soft pastel colours. In each corner is a small group of roses. The carpet has a very soft and light colour palette and is framed by a classic Bijar floral border on a dark indigo blue ground.

This is a furnishing carpet of the highest order and would grace any home.

As with most older Bijar weavings this carpet is on a wool foundation.

The carpet is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile.

The carpet has been hand washed and ready for use or display.

The carpet is suitable for heavy domestic floor use such as a dining or living room.
