Fine Antique Kayseri Carpet

1900 - 1920
Description

This is an unusual example of a fine antique Kayseri rug dating from around 1900. The finely woven carpet has a wonderful design and a very interesting colour palette. The main field of the carpet is of compartmentalised form with each compartment having its own pretty medallion design within, or a Mihrab design complete with hanging lantern. The carpet has a soft light ochre overall and the other shades used include a soft indigo, warm red, and ivory to highlight.

The carpet is in good order with complete ends and selvedges and a low even pile. Very easy on the eye, this carpet measures 188 cms by 126 cms.
